How Much Is My Audemars Piguet Worth?

An Audemars Piguet is valued by its exact reference, which tells a buyer the collection, size, metal, gem-setting and dial. For the Royal Oak and Offshore, the condition of the case finishing and the integrated bracelet decides much of the rest, along with papers, service history and how that reference is trading now.

The Short Answer for AP Owners

Find the full reference, such as 15510ST.OO.1320ST.06, on the warranty card or the caseback. Compare it with completed sales of the same reference in similar condition, with similar papers. Then look honestly at the bevels and bracelet: they move the number more on an AP than on most watches.

Overview

What Drives Audemars Piguet Resale Value

Most of the AP secondary market is the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore. Both are steel-led sports collections with integrated designs, where small differences in size, dial and metal create separate markets, and where case condition is unusually visible. Collection, reference, configuration and originality, in that order, explain most of the value.

New releases matter more for AP than for many brands. When AP replaces a reference with a new generation, demand for the outgoing model can rise or fall, so we always price the generation you own as it trades today.

Reading an AP Reference: The Five-Segment Read

Audemars Piguet's full reference numbers are long, but each segment answers a valuation question. Take 15510ST.OO.1320ST.06 as an example:

SegmentExampleWhat it tells a buyer
Model15510The collection, size and movement: here, the 41 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding introduced in 2022.
Case materialSTSteel. Other codes include OR (rose gold), BA (yellow gold), BC (white gold), TI (titanium) and CE (ceramic).
Gem-settingOONo stones. A different code here indicates a factory gem-set case.
Bracelet or strap1320STThe steel bracelet fitted to that model.
Variant06The specific version, usually the dial.

Read together, the segments separate watches that look nearly identical in photos. Our AP serial numbers guide shows where to find the reference and serial on your watch.

Royal Oak

Royal Oak Valuation Factors

FactorWhat to check on your Royal Oak
Size34, 37, 39 and 41 mm Royal Oaks are separate markets, and the 39 mm Jumbo is priced apart from the 41 mm Selfwinding.
DialColor and tapisserie. The Jumbo uses the fine Petite Tapisserie, while the larger Selfwinding models use Grande Tapisserie. Some colors were made in much smaller numbers.
Case materialSteel leads demand. Gold, two-tone and titanium versions trade within their own, smaller pools of buyers.
Bracelet conditionThe integrated bracelet tapers from the case and can't be swapped for a generic one. Stretch, scratches on polished links and missing links all count.
MovementGeneration changes bring new calibers: the 16202ST uses caliber 7121, which replaced the 2121 in the 15202ST. Movement condition and service history are checked.
Market demandDemand for each reference shifts with new releases and discontinuations, so we price your generation as it trades now.
Condition

Condition and Service History

  • Polishing. The Royal Oak's satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels are its signature, and they're hard to restore once softened. Non-factory polishing that rounds the edges lowers value; a well-kept, unpolished case supports it.
  • Servicing. An AP service supports the movement's condition and may include factory refinishing. Keep the service papers, and ask for any replaced parts.
  • Component replacement. Replaced dials, hands, bezels or aftermarket stones reduce value. On the Offshore, rubber-clad crowns, pushers and straps are normal wear parts and are priced as such.
  • Ceramic. Ceramic cases and bezels can't be polished out if chipped, so damage there costs more.
  • Completeness. The warranty card, box, booklets and every bracelet link make an AP easier to resell. Missing links matter more than on most watches because the bracelet is model-specific.
Identification

Authentication and Reference Identification

A serial lookup identifies an AP, but it can't authenticate one. Counterfeit Royal Oaks copy real serials and reference numbers, so a matching number proves very little by itself.

What settles it is a hands-on inspection: the pattern and finishing quality, the movement, the weight, and paperwork that describes the watch actually in hand. The history of Audemars Piguet helps place a watch in its era before it's inspected.

Know Your Numbers

Market Value vs. a Direct Purchase Offer

For a steel Royal Oak, completed sales are frequent enough to estimate market value closely. For Offshore limited editions, precious-metal pieces and the Code 11.59, comparables are fewer, so ranges are wider. In every case, asking prices on listings overstate what watches sell for.

An offer from a direct buyer sits below dealer asking prices because the buyer covers authentication, holding time and resale costs. Compare an offer with recent completed sales of your exact reference, not with listings. For context on pricing across the collections, see what Audemars Piguet watches cost by collection.

Common Questions

Audemars Piguet Value FAQs

Why is a 39 mm Jumbo valued differently from a 41 mm Royal Oak?

They're different references with different cases, dials and movements, and each has its own buyers. The Jumbo Extra-Thin is a thinner 39 mm design descended from the original 1972 Royal Oak; the 41 mm Selfwinding is a larger, later line.

Is a Royal Oak Offshore worth less than a Royal Oak?

Not as a rule. Offshores are priced on their own comparables. Many are limited or special editions, and their larger cases and varied materials attract a different, often narrower, group of buyers.

Does a missing bracelet link affect my AP's value?

Yes. Royal Oak and Offshore bracelets are specific to each model, so missing links can't simply be replaced with generic ones. Include every link you have.

Is a factory gem-set AP worth more than a steel one?

Factory gem-set models are documented configurations priced on their own comparables. Stones added after sale usually reduce value against the unaltered watch.

How do new AP releases affect my watch's value?

A new generation can shift demand for the one it replaces, in either direction. That's why a valuation for an AP is tied to a date and to the specific generation.

How is a Code 11.59 valued?

Like other AP references: by reference, metal, dial and condition. The collection launched in 2019, so it has less secondary-market history than the Royal Oak, and offers rest on a smaller set of comparable sales.
